Unique Pipe Provides Environmental Solution for ProducedWastewater Adapted from Information by Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LP Performance Pipe, a division of Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LP, is supplying EVX Midstream Partners LLC with PlatinumStripe ® 1800 Series PE-RT Piping to transport produced wastewater in the Eagle Ford Basin in Texas, to multiple saltwater disposal (SWD) facilities. Shale drilling in the Eagle Ford Basin produces high-temperature water, around 160-180ºF (70-80ºC), which corrodes standard steel piping. Performance Pipe’s unique high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe was spe- cially designed for high-temperature environments and will reduce the project’s need for heavy haul trucks. This will not only reduce traffic on public roads, but will also reduce the carbon emissions associated with them. Additional benefits include: j Lowered risk of wastewater spills and improved road safety by reducing 250,000 annual heavy haul truck trips. j Increased reliability and production output yielding predictable expenses for water gathering and disposal versus fluc- tuating costs associated with fuel prices. j Reduced expense of installation and operating costs, as well as diminished carbon emissions associated with the diesel motors used to cool standard HDPE pipes. j Less disruption for landowners and neighboring communities. “The installation of Performance Pipe’s Platinum Stripe ® 1800 Series PE-RT Piping provides numerous benefits to safety, the envi- ronment, and the local community,” said Mike Zeglin, Performance Pipe’s general manager and president. “Our product helps meet the water handling requirements of shale producers in an all-around safe and reliable manner, from reducing the carbon footprint associated with saltwater disposal, to creating less truck traffic and related emissions.” The first phase of the EVX Midstream Partners’ project will cover 160 miles. Currently, there is 30 miles of Performance Pipe’s Platinum Stripe ® 1800 Series PE-RT Piping in service with plans to ultimately use the product for the entire project. This pipeline of more than 300 miles, will make it the largest SWD pipeline network carrying produced wastewater in the Eagle Ford Basin. “This project is a great example of how Performance Pipe products carry significant advantages on multiple fronts, includ- ing in this case, for shale production, the environment, public safety, and our highway infrastructure,” said Herb Chambers IV, CEO of EVX Midstream Partners. “That is why we believe our SWD pipeline network represents a true win-win for shale producers, our company, local landowners, and the Eagle Ford’s economic growth.” 56 NOVEMBER 2019 WorldWide Drilling Resource ® Photo courtesy of EVX Midstream Partners, LLC.
