In Memoriam Edward Allen Hardwicke (1945~2020) The Florida Ground Water Association (FGWA) relayed the passing of longtime member and Past President Edward Allen Hardwicke on June 12, 2020. He was owner/operator of Allen’s Well Drilling, Inc. until his retire- ment in 2008. He served on many FGWA boards and was recipient of member of the year award. Allen was also a past president of the North Central Florida Well Drillers Association, founding member of the Lake County Airboat Club, and an active member of the Florida Artist Blacksmith Association. Allen is survived by his wife of 54 years, Chloe; son Reggie (Stacy); daughter Daphne (Scott); grandchildren Danielle, Desirae, Wyatt, Sidney, Aschlea; and sisters Nancy and Judy. William D. Burns (1933~2020) William D. Burns of Corunna, Michigan, passed away May 12, 2020, at the age of 86. As a teenager, he enlisted with the U.S. Marine Corps and served as a tank commander in some of the fiercest fighting of the Korean War. After returning home and working briefly with General Motors, he joined his brother Jim to establish Burns Well Drilling, a commercial and residential water well business in Flint. He remained active in the company after his brother retired, partnering with his son and grandson who continue to operate it. At his farm, he raised cattle and quarter horses, and was involved with 4-H horse clubs for many years. William was a longtime member of the Shiawassee County Sheriff’s Posse, including its pistol shooting team. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, licensed pilot, and devoted family man who enjoyed gathering at his farm and also at the family cottage in Oscoda. William is survived by his wife Marianne; daughter Kim (Anthony); son Bob; grandchildren Anthony (Jesse), Kendyll (Dave), Nicholas, Rob (Lisa); great-grandchildren William and Ruth, plus another great-grandchild expected soon. Mark Russell Adams (1949~2020) The Michigan Ground Water Association was saddened to report the passing of Mark Russell Adams on June 1, 2020. A lifelong resident of Brighton, Mark graduated from high school, then served in the Vietnam War. Upon his return, he worked alongside his father and brother Danny in the family business, Adam’s Well Drilling. He proudly watched the company grow and develop through his sons and nephews as they have taken it to new heights. He was enjoying his “retirement” these last few years, and many said he worked harder than ever tinkering on various projects. Mark was everyone’s go-to guy, as he was always willing to lend a helping hand. From boating to exploring hundreds of miles looking for the next fishing expedition, he was an adventure seeker. Mark is survived by his wife Karen; children Ryan (Joanna), Brody (Ara), and Kaitlyn; grandchildrenAriana, Cameron, and Rylee; sisters Dee, Vicki, and Nancy; and numerous extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother. Daniel L. Shipe (1934~2020) A lifelong resident of Pleasant Lake, Indiana, Daniel L. Shipe passed away May 22, 2020. He started ShipeWell Drilling in 1971, handing the reins over to his three sons upon retirement. He loved to watch and play sports. He played on a fast pitch softball team and sponsored a team for several years, which included winning a state championship. In retirement, his passion was playing golf. Daniel is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 66 years, Gladys; sons Robert (Brenda), Ronald, Richard (Brenda); daughters Diana (James), Donna (Mark), Debra (Gary), and Gloria (Rob); 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
