Not-So-New Geothermal Project Development Company Adapted from Information from Schlumberger and Clean Power Nevis Schlumberger New Energy, a new Schlumberger business, and Thermal Energy Partners (TEP) announced they have entered into an agreement to create GeoFrame Energy, a geothermal project development company. GeoFrame Energy will leverage its partners’ expertise to develop efficient and profitable geothermal power generation projects, providing an opportunity to support a reliable supply of clean energy. “Through GeothermEx, a Schlumberger company, we have acquired extensive knowledge of geothermal resource assessment and project design implementation,” stated Ashok Belani, executive vice president, Schlumberger New Energy. “By combining our geothermal, subsurface, and drilling expertise with TEP’s experience in project development and risk mitigation, we will develop derisked and streamlined geothermal projects on a global scale.” Bruce Cutright, TEP’s chief executive officer said, “We are thrilled with this partnership. GeoFrame Energy will focus on quickly reaching our first milestone of 100 megawatts of geothermal capacity. The combined experience and expertise in drilling, reservoir identification and assessment, and project execution provide an unequalled opportunity for the success of the new company.” GeoFrame Energy will benefit from the partners’ project execution, drilling, subsurface evaluation, and digital technology integration expertise, combined with systems engineering, modeling, data analytics, and machine learning capabilities. It will create new avenues for growth of the geothermal industry, while also attracting investment from various financial institutions. The new company’s first project is the ten-megawatt Nevis Geothermal Power Project on the Caribbean Island of Nevis. As mentioned on page 37 ofWWDR ’s May 2018 issue, Nevis is committed to development of its geothermal resources, which is estimated at a potential 300 megawatts. Schlumberger Integrated Drilling Services was contracted in 2019 to install the geothermal production and injection wells for the Nevis project; they have been working with GeothermEx on well design and testing on the island. Site clearing for the Nevis Geothermal Plant began earlier this year. www.starironworks.com 257 Caroline Street Punxsutawney, PA 15767 800-927-0560 • 814-427-2555 Fax: 814-427-5164 SERVINGTHECONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY Serving the Drilling Industry 21 WorldWide Drilling Resource ® DECEMBER 2020 GEO Photo courtesy of Clean Power Nevis.
