Carbon Pledge Leads to Geothermal Development Adapted from Information by ERDWERK Drilling has commenced for the first of twowells of the Janssen Pharmaceuticals’ (a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson) geothermal project in Beerse, Belgium. The campus is the workplace for over 3000 employees and contractors, and has the heat demand of a small town. In keeping with the company’s pledge to reduce carbon emissions by 20% by 2020 and 80% by 2050, Janssen is looking to become the first industrial developer of a geothermal project in the country. The plan is to replace the existing combustion plant on the site with a geothermal system. The site currently consumes more energy than any other Johnson & Johnson site worldwide and has an energy demand equalling 38,000 homes. The doublet will be drilled to about 8200 feet to reach geothermal water with tem- peratures around 194ºF (90ºC) in the Dinantian Reservoir. German company ERDWERK has supported Janssen through the development of the project, well design, and drill pro- gram, and will continue as specialist geothermal consultant for the project into the drilling phase. Relationships & Regret by Tim Connor Every relationship has emotional ups and downs. These are caused by any number of emotional issues. Some evident emotions in any relationship are: blame, anger, resentment, jealousy, happiness, joy, fear, guilt, sadness, grief, pain, disappointment, unrealized expectations, cheerfulness, and numerous others - including emotional games. When I speak of emotional immaturity, I am referring to inappropriate emotions given a certain activity, situation, or circumstance. For example, carrying resentment around for several years after the cause isn’t healthy physically, or for the relationship. Blaming your partner for an action when they were just doing the best they could at the time with what they had, is to invite a breakdown in communication and intimacy. Not being sensitive to your partner’s negative emotional state due to a situation in their career or life is to send a message you are emotionally distant from their needs, desires, or feelings. Regret in life weighs tons. Living with words spoken or unspoken, deeds done or left undone, and actions taken or not taken, are some of the biggest burdens people carry with them through life, and some to their grave. To live each moment in life with a happy perspective and disposition requires we live in such a way there is no need to carry regret into the next minute, let alone the next year. Why do people choose to live with regret? A better question is: Why do people act or speak in such a way it requires them to experience the constant negative pull of regret in their life? If I had an answer to that one, I wouldn’t be sitting at my computer slav- ing over each word, I would be cruising the Caribbean on my sailboat. All I ask is you consider the weight of regret in your life and your state of emotional maturity.
