The “Idiots” Corner by “Billy Bob Smith” I want to be clear from the outset - I am not insensitive to the people who have lost loved ones or friends due to this terrible virus we have all been experiencing. I have friends who have had it and survived, thankfully. I get it - things have changed due to circumstances we can’t control 100%, and we are in a new normal. Now I have that out of the way, here are a few U.S. statistics from 2019: 0 88,000+ people died from alcohol - are we closing bars and liquor stores forever? 0 47,000+ people died from suicide - is it now illegal to kill yourself? 0 580,000+ people died from smoking - are cigarettes illegal? 0 33,000+ people died from car accidents - is driving against the law? Okay, that’s 748,000+ people dead due to preventable circumstances, and what are we doing about it - close businesses, churches, schools, etc.? No, it’s business as usual year after year. So here are my thoughts, if you even care: 0 When idiots (most politicians) run things, stupid things are decided. 0 When common sense is ignored, stupid things are inevitable. 0 When we don’t apply what we have learned from history, we repeat stupid stuff. 0 When we let egos run things, stupid stuff happens. 0 When we all do what we are told by government officials who are only concerned about their reputation or reelection, we are doomed. Need I go on or do you agree with me? Or, don’t care and want me to just shut up and behave? Well, either way, my hero Mark Twain once said, “We need to put a fence around Washington, D.C., and call it off-limits for anyone with common sense.” Here’s my quote for the month, “If you let idiots tell you what to do, what not to do, how to live, how not to live, etc., sooner or later you will become one of the idiots just like them.” Stay safe and healthy - and be sure to store up on toilet paper - you never know when the next crisis is coming . . .
