We Recycle It’s June, and this issue for me is all about special relationships . You see, June 5, 1976, in Valdosta, Georgia, Al Jones and I got married at the courthouse by Judge Holcomb, I believe was his name. It wasn’t easy back then. We drove from Gainesville, Florida, to Valdosta and had to be there before noon. But of course there had to be a great deal of traffic, and we weren’t exactly sure where to go - no GPS, etc. There were CB radios however, and we got behind a guy with a canoe in the back of his pickup truck. Al asked for help and told him we were late to get blood work and get married. The guy was great. He told us, “Follow me. I’ll get you there with time to spare.” And yes he did indeed! The funniest part was Al didn’t have the money on him to pay the Judge, as was customary ~ so, as you guessed it, I stepped up and handed him the $5. After all, I had waited two years for this day. That, my friends, was the real beginning of this special relationship . As our relationship grew, there were many hurdles to overcome, and we did. At one point, we had just built a beautiful new home in Chiefland, Florida, when Al decided he wanted to start his own buy here, pay here car lot. So, this home, that didn’t have a mortgage on it - just got one - I agreed. Those next years flew by and before you knew it, here comes the state to take part of the front of our 115 acres to widen Highway 27A. There was no talking them out of it - so we decided to move with our cattle and horses to the Panhandle of Florida. Fast forward, after working with Doc Faison a few years; leaving him; then him selling; then me getting the brilliant idea I wanted to start another magazine and since Doc, Yvonne, and I had a great relationship, we did just that. Stuff happens and Doc was no longer able to be involved, so it was my turn to discuss “mortgaging the farm”. Once again, Al and I agreed, and our relationship grew even closer. So, why am I bringing this up now? For many reasons, besides June the 5th is upon me; my husband is gone and Doc is gone, but through these great 17 years with WorldWide Drilling Resource ® , I have been blessed by many relationships with each of you in this great industry of drilling. We have all been through a lot together. Some of you have shared the joys and sadnesses with me as if we have been friends a lifetime. Each time I see your smiling faces; receive a phone call from you; or a card in the mail ~ just to say hi or share something with me, my world lights up again. You continue to give me the strength and ambition to continue to think of new and hopefully better ways to help you with your successes. If something doesn’t work out, so be it. We move on to something else. Remember, that is the only way we find true happiness - through failures and successes. If everything was a suc- cess, it would become commonplace. I am leading up to one of the biggest and best things, in addition to this magazine of course, is our latest adventure with you invited to join us ~ Please open to the LARGEST CENTERFOLD in the history of this magazine.
