The “Idiots” Corner by “Billy Bob Smith” During times of uncertainty, fear, and anxiety we all need four things - faith, hope, courage, and laughter. We have all been through, or are going through, a variety of challenges. Let me share with you a few things that might help, but first a quote from one of the l as t cen t u r y ’s g r ea t mi nds , Da l e Carnegie, from his book “How to Stop Worrying and Start Living” written in 1948. “You and I are standing this very second at the meeting place of two eter- nities: the vast past that has endured forever and the future that is plunging on to the last syllable of recorded time. We can’t possibly live in either of those eternities - no, not for even one second. But by trying to do so, we can wreck both our bodies and our minds. So, let’s be content to live the only time we can possibly live: from now until bedtime.” j Do you really need 50 rolls of toilet paper? Come on, I’ll bet you don’t use that much in a year. j Fear is the single biggest contributor to illness and ultimately death. Is worrying about silly stuff or even stupid stuff, really worth it? j Adverse times bring out either the best or the worst in people - which are they or did they bring out in you? j This too shall pass - ever heard that? Let’s change it to: This too shall prepare me. j During difficult life times - depression, recession, serious illness, etc. what’s the worst thing you could lose? How about the air you breathe, your freedom, or “________________.” It’s your turn. And, what didn't you lose? j I went shopping last month, and one person was pushing three carts in the grocery store - give me a break. What about sharing, caring about others, kindness, and compassion? Got it? Lost it? Never had it? j Have you ever been through a serious life challenge? Not yet? Well trust me, you will sooner or later. No one gets out of here with a “get home free card.” So, if you have been through a tough life peri- od - what did you learn? Come on, this question is worth a couple of minutes of your time. Let me close with a simple thought: Who do you think emerges from difficult times most successfully - idiots or wise people?
