31 WorldWide Drilling Resource ® MAY 2020 In Memoriam Robert H. “Bob” Westphal With profound sadness, Michels Corporation announced the passing of Robert H. “Bob” Westphal on March 31, 2020. He was hired by Dale Michels in 1965, as a pipeline laborer. Bob quickly established him- self as a great leader, generous mentor, and valued friend to those he worked with, including the Michels family. Throughout his career, he filled many roles, including operator, foreman, superintendent, general superintendent, vice president, senior vice president, and was senior construction advisor at the time of his death. He devoted 55 years to the com- pany, tirelessly pushing their performance and the trenchless construction industries’ potential to higher levels. He was a valued member of many organizations, such as the North American Society for Trenchless Technology (NASTT) and the Pipe Line Contractors Association. In 2019, he was inducted into the NASTT Hall of Fame. Bob is survived by his wife Jone; sons Scott, Jeff, Matt, and Chad; other family members, countless friends, and his extend- ed family at Michels. Lest we forget...
