WorldWide Drilling Resource

19 DECEMBER 2022 WorldWide Drilling Resource® In Memoriam Billy Green (1924~2022) The Texas Ground Water Association was saddened by the passing of Billy Green of Eldorado and Sonora, on August 4, 2022. The sixth of seven children, he lost his father when he was six, so Billy’s entire youth was spent working with his siblings on the family farm, learning the ropes of ranching, farming, and surviving the Great Depression. After graduating high school, Billy found work on various ranches while pursuing his love for the sport of rodeo, mostly bull riding and calf roping. In 1949, he won the Bull Riding Championship at the world-famous West of The Pecos Rodeo. He married Gloria in 1950, and soon left the rodeo life. In 1954, they moved to Sonora, and Billy bought the Vernon Cook Windmill Service and started his own business, to become known as Billy Green Water Service. It didn’t take long before he developed a reputation of being the man to call for windmill and pump repairs in Sutton and surrounding counties. After his divorce, Billy married Camille in 1967. They were loyal Sonora Bronco football fans, following the team to every game for many years. Billy served as a Chapter President of the Texas Water Well Drillers Association, State Board President of the Texas Ground Water Association, and a Board member of the Southwest Texas Electric Coop. In those roles, he also testified in committee before the Texas State Legislature. Billy continued to service many area ranchers’ water needs for 50 plus years before settling down and running his modest cattle operation, occasionally with some sheep and goats, in Schleicher County. Billy knew cattle and loved his cows. Survivors include his sons Bill (Deborah) and Tom (Heidi); daughter Angela (Arthur); grandchildren Cassie, Jerrad, Megan, Tyler, Thomas, William, and Dustin; and great-grandchildren Nathan, Lilly, Jack, Henry, Abby, Noah, Dolly, Harley, Bowen, and Austyn. If you ever got to meet Billy, you met a true friend. WorldWide Drilling Resource® was honored to have had that opportunity. Our sincerest sympathies to all his family and friends.
