50 DECEMBER 2022 WorldWide Drilling Resource® Groundwater Week Booth 819 The “Idiots” Corner by “Billy Bob Smith” The “Idiots” year in review - plus a few stupid trends. Wow, did this year fly by, or is it just me? Since we are surrounded by idiots in every major category in life - government, sports, education, business, and so many others - I thought I would do a quick “2022 Idiots Wrap Up” on just a few. But first, a quick quote that says it all: “Every company can choose whether to lead or follow the emerging trends.” ~Bill Gates Government j Government spends $16.7 million on unused hotel rooms for migrants released in the United States. j The federal government has shelled out $3 million to researchers at the University of California at Irvine to fund their research on video games such as World of Warcraft. j The Department of Health and Human Services plans to spend $500 million on a program that will, among other things, seek to solve the problem of five-year-old children who “can’t sit still” in a kindergarten classroom. j The federal government once spent 30 million dollars on a program designed to help Pakistani farmers produce more mangoes. j China lends us more money than any other foreign nation, but it didn’t stop our government from spending 17.8 million dollars on social and environmental programs for China. Sports j People who use the word “we” when talking about their favorite team. You're not on the team. There is no we. The word you're looking for is “they.” j How stupid is it when you are such an exhibitionist you take your clothes off and expose your beer belly in front of 60,000 fans and over a million watching on TV? j Basketball mascots are stupid too. What does a guy in a catsuit or a bird costume add to a basketball game? j Whoever came up with the idea of dressing up sausages and having them race around a baseball field is an idiot. j How anybody would want to sit and have their eardrums shattered while watching moving billboards circle an asphalt track is beyond me. Education j To begin with, kicking off the popular trend in education list today is online learning. Due to COVID-19 effects, over 1.2 billion children are out of school, globally. j Oregon schools place feminine products and detail pamphlets on how to use them in boys’ bathrooms! Disgusting! j Poverty in public school districts has a ripple effect influencing student and parental behaviors, which results in reduced funding for schools and can also cause issues like food and housing insecurity. j Education is about the basics - reading, writing, English, history, and mathematics. You might be amazed how many schools today are not teaching any of these skills. They are teaching what I respectfully refer to as “life skills” - race, gender, appeasement, isolation, and so many more. Yes, they may be important life skills when you are in your 20s or 30s, but first grade? Kindergarten? Business j Prioritizing profit and the quick sale at the cost of long-term health. All actions should consider both the short- and long-term. Idiots who only look at the daily/monthly Billy Bob Cont’d on page 52.
