Fluid follows along the inner surface of the mixing chamber to one of the two outlet ports. The feedback loops will cause fluid flow inside the switch to alternate between the outlet ports once a chamber is filled. A full chamber will be emptied through one of the outlet vents. Prototyping of the device is done via 3D printing for quick adaptation and variation of parameters. A smooth surface is vital for safe functioning of the mixing chamber, as the Coanda effect only works with flow across a smooth surface. This completely new method of DTH drilling will provide a more reliable device for deep hole drilling applications. Integrated into a fluidic hammer, the fluidic switch will drastically increase ROP in hard formations together with advanced coatings to reduce friction and wear increasing the life span of equipment, improving efficiency of fluid transfer. Billy Bob, Your column in the December issue of WorldWide Drilling Resource® [on page 28] resonated with me. I have made a conscious effort to tell people (every one from convenience store clerks to my accountant) that I appreciate them being at work in difficult circumstances. Actually, I’m appalled that it means so much to them, because that tells me they’re not on the receiving end of enough “thanks”. Appreciate you pointing it out.
