48 JULY 2022 WorldWide Drilling Resource® Ontario Promotes Mining Education and Tourism Adapted from Information by Science North and Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources, and Forestry The Ontario government in Canada is providing $1.5 million through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation to support Science North in engaging audiences in new and memorable experiences highlighting Ontario’s innovative and modern mining sector. This investment is an effort to help create jobs, expand business operations, improve quality of life, and grow tourism in the region. “For decades, Science North has offered inspirational, educational, and entertaining science experiences in the Sudbury region and beyond,” said Greg Rickford, Minister of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry. “Our government is proud to support this new project that will highlight Ontario’s position as a global leader in the mining industry, complement Ontario’s first-ever Critical Minerals Strategy, and grow tomorrow’s generation of workers in this exciting sector, all while expanding Science North’s offerings to visitors from across the province and around the country.” Go Deeper: New Experiences to Engage Northern Ontarians in Modern Mining and Critical Minerals will showcase equipment, technology, innovation, and new opportunities in a rapidly changing and dynamic industry. The exhibit will engage audiences in rural, underserved, and remote communities across Northern Ontario and Canada, through a digital game about modern mining and critical minerals, as well as hands-on activities for students and teachers. An expanded and renewed Dynamic Earth building in Sudbury will include new underground experiences, programming spaces, immersive multimedia shows, and a signature film. Visitors will get a closer look at advanced robotics and the latest safety gear while discovering how modern mines are using technology and developing innovations. Guests can try on virtual reality headsets to view an underground mine and learn how electric vehicles and critical minerals are contributing to net-zero goals. “The automated technologies we are using as mines go deeper is rapidly shifting the way people work, and the education and skills required. The Go Deeper project has the potential to help attract a new generation to the industry,” said Peter Xavier, vice president, Glencore Sudbury Integrated Nickel Operations.
