WorldWide Drilling Resource

40 NOVEMBER 2022 WorldWide Drilling Resource® Groundwater Week Booth 457 j Lean on the people you love for support. Develop your tribe and make plans together for dealing with the unknown. j Be flexible. Don’t give up your goals (or your purpose in life); continue to pursue them, but consider taking new or different paths to achieve them. Learn the art of adapting, and develop change agility. Now is a great time to be creative. j It’s okay to grieve your losses, but don’t dwell in them. Count your blessings; you still have a lot. j Keep a positive mental attitude. Look at change as an opportunity. j Be mindful; live in the present. Don’t get bogged down trying to see the whole picture. Ask yourself: What can I do just today to move toward my goals? On a Practical Basis, Do These Things to Be Prepared j Invest in your health. If you’ve wanted to lose weight or get in shape, now is a great time to start a new diet or an exercise habit. j Diversify your savings; as the old adage advises: don’t keep all your eggs in one basket. Speak to a financial advisor and learn about the best ways to store your wealth in times of inflation: cash, stable stocks, insurance, precious metals, cryptocurrencies, luxury collectibles, or real estate. j Increase your income, save more and build a bigger nest egg. Work extra hours, take a second job, or start a new business or side hustle. j Finally, you don’t need to hunker down in a bomb shelter to be prepared. Simply review the things you use every day or frequently and keep backups of those items (remember the toilet paper shortage of 2020). Once it sank in that my family was broke, the college fund was gone, and the burden of paying for college had fallen to me, I pivoted. I went to my dad and said, “Don’t worry about me going to college, Dad; I’ll go to Georgia State University instead of Emory. I can afford to pay for that myself with what I’m earning at my part-time job. Even better, I won’t even have to retake the SAT to get in!” Robert Robert is an innovation/change speaker, author, and consultant.
