WorldWide Drilling Resource
50 JULY 2013 WorldWide Drilling Resource ® In Honor of Douglas K. Burnsworth 11-30-1949 ~ 5-10-2013 by Veronica I. “Ronnie” Jones Managing Publisher While attending a training class in Enid, Oklahoma, little did I know a dear friend had left this earth. Life is a very precious thing, and sometimes we go about our daily lives not realizing today could be the last day we see, hear, or talk to someone in our lives. Be it a sig- nificant other, friend, acquaintance, business partner, husband, wife, child, mother, father, or another person in your life, we just never know when our, or their time is up. I was in shock as I heard Pat Garrity tell me my long-time friend died on May the 10th. Doug was one of those friends you didn’t see or speak with very often, but you knew he was a true supporter, ally, and friend. The last time I saw him was during this past year’s MINExpo in Las Vegas. The photo above was taken during that event. As I searched for photographs of Doug to share with you, I realized he was such a private man, he didn’t appear in any of the photos we had taken throughout these past ten years, except for this one. Thankfully, Ed Moranski was there to capture this photo opportunity, which I will cherish forever. Many did not know the numer- ous investments Doug made in our industry. I am proud to say he was an investor in Wor ldWide Dr i l l ing Resource, Inc., from its inception in 2003, until the day he died. He believed wholeheartedly in our industry. He left us at the young age of 63 at his home in Chester Hill, Pennsylvania, after a long two-year battle with lung cancer. He was the son of the late Edgar W. and Marilyn E. (Wilcox) Burnsworth. He was also preceded in death by his brother Richard W. Burnsworth, and great-niece Kelsey Burnsworth. He is survived by his significant other Susan Carpin Myers, Chester Hill, Pennsylvania; nephew Rick Burnsworth, Philipsburg, Pennsylvania; niece Debra Lust, Apopka, Florida; great-niece Devin Burnsworth, Altoona, Florida; great-niece Ava Lust, and great-nephew Grant Lust, Apopka. Doug graduated fromAlbert Gallitan High School of Mastontown in 1967 and attended Penn State. He was an Army Veteran of the Vietnam War, attended the Hollidaysburg Christian Alliance Church, and was a member of the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks 1173 in Philipsburg. Doug was the proud owner and operator of Douglas Drill Services, Inc. and most recently REICHdrill ® , both located in Philipsburg. There was no visitation; however, a memorial service was to be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of the Beezer-Heather Funeral Home in Philipsburg. Memorial contri- butions may be made to the Clearfield County SPCA, 275 21st Street, Clearfield, PA 16830, or to the Rowland Theatre, Inc., 127 North Front Street, Philipsburg PA 16866. Lest we forget...
