In a recent article in Christianity Today magazine, the author answers the question by saying providing clean water is the way to spend the least and help people the most. This is what Water for Life International is all about. Our donors make it possible for volunteers to help people who have no way to help them- selves. Together, we provide clean water to rural villages in Northeast Guatemala. This is the story of one of our donors. Dolly was a young person who was born with neurological challenges. She was handicapped, but she lived life as fully as she could. She faced the usual issues young people face these days and she was not always successful, but she had a tremendous love for people and faith in the Lord. Sadly, she passed away too soon, and her parents made a gift to Water for Life in her memory. The donation was sufficient to fund a well in a remote village and equip another with a solar pump. One is the remote village of Barriall. It is near the Belize border. There is no grid power and the road to get there is little more than a track through the jun- gle. Most of the time it takes a four- wheel drive vehicle to get there, and sometimes a vehicle cannot get there at all. The people only had a muddy, polluted creek to drink from when the two hand-dug wells were dry, and this was usually about half the year. When there was water in the wells, there were snakes and frogs too. We drilled there and had a very low-producing well. The solar pump made all the difference in the world. The other village was Moldeja. The village received a well this year. There was a good supply of water from a hole about 200 feet deep, but the static level came up to about 30 feet. A hand pump was placed there, which is entirely suit- able. The villagers were so happy to have a source of good water, they had a big dedication party with laughing, happy children throwing water all around. What had been a very precious com- modity was now available with a few strokes of a hand pump. Dolly’s story was told in each village and a sign will be placed to remind the villagers of the kindness inspired by a young lady. If you would like to remember some- one with a gift to Water for Life, the kindness you show will make a real dif- ference in the lives of many. Thank you.
