The per- centage increases to 50% if the employer participates in an insur- ance exchange. ] SHOPs: The open enrollment pe- riod for health insurance is scheduled to begin November 15, 2014, when the Small Business Health Options Program (SHOP) exchanges open for business after a year’s postpone- ment. The number one benefit of the ACA for self-employed drilling professionals and other business owners is they can now afford their own health insurance. In fact, thanks to the ACA, 83% of cur- rently uninsured small business owners became eligible for health-care coverage. Additionally, many small business owners who currently buy their own individual health-care coverage in the private mar- ket may be eligible to take advantage of new tax savings as well. Unfortunately, for many small drilling business employers, insurance is more expensive than ever. In a recent survey, 91% of small business owners reported their insurance costs rose when they renewed their health insurance. Naturally, to fully understand all of the pros and cons of the Affordable Care Act, reap the full benefits, and avoid potential pitfalls, professional assistance is strongly recommended. Mark Mark E. Serving Those Who Have Served Adapted from Information Provided by the Warriors First Foundation and the Department of Veterans Affairs From the warriors who stormed the beaches at Normandy, to the brave men and women returning from Iraq andAfghanistan, Americans place sacred trust in those who defend our country. Our veterans share a history of service spanning generational lines and uphold- ing the foundational values of our nation - service to a cause greater than self. Vanair ® Manufacturing created the Warriors First Foundation (WFF) with support from the Shamrocks Motorcycle Club, American Legion, and many oth- ers. The foundation raises money to support American war fighters, and joins industry and nonprofit sectors in helping local veterans in need. The WFF launched the Save our Servicemembers (SoS) campaign to raise awareness of two signature in- juries: Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). Estimates suggest over 700,000 servicemembers and veterans currently suffer from some degree of PTSD and or TBI, most of which are unscreened, undiagnosed, and untreated. They face long wai t ing l ists at Veterans’ Administration and a lack of mental health-care access in rural areas. A tragic suicide epidemic is cur- rently plaguing the military. It claims one active-duty soldier every day, and one veteran every 65 minutes; that’s 22 suicides every day and over 8000 each year.
