A common problem occurs when we pull a pump, and some of the water in the pipe column falls back into the well, washing the scale and dirt on the inside of the casing into the standing water column. Now, the water we want to video is full of floating particles and no camera can see through dirt. All you might need is a tank of water, sufficient drop pipe (or CPVC pipe) to reach the bottom of the well, and a few fittings. Attach the camera head to 1-inch Schedule 80 drop pipe and lower the camera into the SWL (static water level) of the well. When you get to the area you want to see better (such as inspecting the screen at the bottom, there is no need to flush the top area above it), attach a hose to the top end of the pipe and si- phon fresh clean water into the well. I would suggest to not use chlorinated or city water, as it could create more prob- lems if you have iron or bacteria. This influx of freshwater will push the existing cloudy water down and out into the for- mation, thus allowing for clear viewing of the casing area as the clear fresh- water will provide good visibility. A simple way to attach the camera head to 1-inch Schedule 80 drop pipe is make a hold- er out of a Schedule 80 PVC coupl ing a n d a t t a c h i n g a MAGLITE ® spring clip holder available from most hardware and discount stores. Make one with the spring clip on the side for down viewing and flushing clean water. Also, make one with the spring clip attached to a 1-inch PVC plug, and screwed into the bottom. Next, drill a ½-inch hole through the side of the coupling, just above the plug. This will allow you to attach the camera to the clip in a horizontal position, and flush fresh clear water down the drop pipe and out the ½-inch hole in front of the camera lens. (This works great for inspecting screens.) You will immediately be able to see as the fresh- water is displacing the dirty water. As the water is siphoned in, you will obvi- ously know when you have gone too fast for the water displacement, and just have to slow down a bit.
