43 WorldWide Drilling Resource ® JUNE 2015 Safety Celebration Adapted from Information by Boart Longyear Boart Longyear’s drilling services team in Argentina recently surpassed 3 million work hours without a lost-time injury (LTI), breaking a safety record dating back to 2009. “This is a very significant accom- plishment,” said Travis O’Briant, territory manager - Peru and Argentina. “Passing 3 million work hours without an LTI is a testament to all the hard work our teams do each day, and to their dedication to our core value of safety.” The field team in Argentina, which is comprised of 100%Argentine employ- ees, was expanded by more than 70 helpers and support personnel as the company increased its activities in the Santa Cruz province in the second half of 2014. New employees are required to go through the Boart Longyear New Hire Identification and Training program, which ensures they get the information and experience needed to work safely and successfully. They also wear new- hire identification so experienced employ- ees can support, mentor, and look out for them. “High altitudes and extreme weath- er can make Argentina a very challenging place to work. We have a great team in Argentina, and they remain focused and diligent as ever with regard to operating safely and delivering exceptional serv- ice to our valued customers. I’m very proud of their tremendous efforts,” stat- ed O’Briant. Boart Longyear celebrates its 125 th year anniversary this year. Through its safety first approach to drilling, crews focus on keeping people safe with zero injuries and illnesses, as well as protecting the environment with zero environmental incidents. The company’s team at Northparkes Mines in New South Wales, Australia, is also celebrating a safety achievement. The crew has not had a LTI since its arrival on-site at Northparkes as a drilling contractor, recently passing the milestone of two years LTI-free. “Safety is the most important aspect of a jobsite for Boart Longyear,” said Harry Mostert, territory manager - Eastern Australia, New Zealand, Asia Pacific. “Our safety culture is about accepting a personal and shared responsibility for ourselves, our fellow employees, our con- tractors, our customers, and our share- holders to proactively work on improving safety on-site.
