I should have asked for a jury.” Groucho Marx This month, I thought I would focus on relationships, since sooner or later we all do stupid stuff. I’ll start with a couple of quickies: Two of the most dangerous words in the English language are, “I do.” Or how about a little bit longer version, “I didn’t really sign up for this.” Bad relationships just keep getting worse and good ones just keep getting better. Okay, now to some lessons learned: 0 A man will pay $2 for a $1 item he needs. A woman will pay $1 for a $2 item she doesn't need. 0 Awoman worries about the future until she gets a husband. A man never worries about the future until he gets a wife. 0 A successful man is one who makes more money than his wife can spend. A successful woman is one who can find such a man. 0 To be happy with a man, you must understand him a lot and love him a little. To be happy with a woman, you must love her a lot and not try under- stand her at all. 0 Any married man should forget his mistakes, there's no use in two peo- ple remembering the same thing. 0 Men wake up as good-looking as they went to bed. Women somehow deteriorate during the night. 0 A woman marries a man expect- ing he will change, but he doesn't. A man marries a woman expecting she won't change, and she does. 0 A woman has the last word in any argument. Anything a man says after that is the beginning of a new argu- ment. 0 You believe the opposite sex should always understand what you're saying. 0 You choose the partner you're most likely to lose rather than the best one. 0 My former wife told me we could- n't afford beer anymore and I'd have to quit. Then I caught her spending $65 on makeup. So I asked how come I had to give up stuff and not her. 0 I recently overheard a husband and wife at a party chatting with some friends when the subject of marriage counseling came up. “Oh, we'll never need that. My husband and I have a great relationship,” the wife explained. “He was a communications major in college, and I majored in theater arts.
