In addition to the initial donation of comput- ers, the company’s donation will be used for training and equipment to assist local students. The announcement was made at an event at the Vocational Training School, which was attended by local officials and leaders including Alvin Nichols (GE sup- ply chain leader sub-Saharan Africa) and Nitika Rosa (GE human resources leader GE Angola). The leaders were also able to tour the school and meet with students. Supporting education development in Angola, including building schools, teacher training, and new equipment is an important investment for the company. Vocational education and trade certifica- tions are necessary to continue to local growth and support hiring by companies like GE. To further develop and train local talent, GE is helping the next generation of engineering and service experts. ‘’GE continues to grow and invest in Angola. In addition to Angola’s industrial growth, we are committed to helping sup- port the development of a talented local workforce pipeline,” Marco Caccavale, general manager Africa, GE Oil & Gas said. “Through partnership with organi- zations l ike Africare and MAPESS Vocational Training Center, we are invest- ing in skills building for the next genera- tion of Soyo workers and will be best positioned to support the growth and opportunities presented by the Angolan oil and gas sector.” The company also announced it will be investing $2 billion in facility develop- ment, skills training, and sustainability initiatives across Africa by 2018. GE Chairman and CEO Jeff Immelt said he is proud of the company’s 100-year history in Africa, and these investments demonstrate the company’s commitment to Africa’s sustainable growth.
