WorldWide Drilling Resource

In Memoriam of our dear friend, Arthur Joseph “Art” Beatty 12/20/1926 ~ 10/07/2017 This is truly one of the hardest parts of traveling ~ meeting people who you know at first sight will remain in your heart forever. Art Beatty was just that man to me. Antofagasta, Chile, was the place and EXPONOR was the event. He was a very gracious man, had much to say of the drilling industry and his exploits throughout his years. They interested me so very much, I had asked him on several occasions to share them with the rest of the drilling industry. Finally, there was someone who could help us accomplish that task - Igor Proestakis. Art was so respected and vital to the industry for so many years, he was picked up at his home and driven to the office and even to the jobsites to give his ideas to those now doing the physical work. He retired from Geotec Boyles in December 2014 - but quickly went to work with Drillers Supply S.A. Low and behold, Igor listened to my suggestion when I asked if there was someone who could tape Art’s stories and send them to us to put on paper and share with the world of drilling. He did just that for his dear friend and each of you. Igor would send those taped stories to our Office Administrator Michele and she in turn would transcribe them for publication. Where there is a will, there is a way. We were so proud to share them with you and now we are saddened yet honored to be the maga- zine that remembers our dear friend and Contributing Writer Art Beatty in this special way. Arthur Joseph Beatty is survived by his wife, Liz of Antofagasta, Chile; daughters Judy (Wayne), Peggy, and Artie (John); grandchildren, and a host of friends. He was laid to rest in Antofagasta where many of his friends in the drilling industry came to bid him farewell. He was an icon in the industry and will be sorely missed by all who had the fortune to know him. Let’s take a fewmoments to remember theArt we all knew and loved and who was always eager to visit with those at the trade events, as well as his daily work in drilling, by seeing his smiling face, enjoying his wonderful hugs of hello, and his serious discussions on the drilling issues of the day (year). And let us not forget his telephone! We here at WorldWide Drilling Resource ® send our sincerest sympathies to Art’s family and friends worldwide. Lest we forget...
