In Memoriam Carl “Charlie” Bartlett (1932~2018) California Groundwater Association member Carl “Charlie” Bartlett began his life on June 10, 1932, in Big Springs, Texas. The last chapter of his journey was completed with his passing on March 8, 2018. Charlie proudly served in the U.S. Air Force, then moved to the Yuba/Sutter area of California. In 1965, with his brother Al, he started Valley Pump and Motor Works in Yuba City. He cultivated the business with passion, fury, and tenacity. He was an advocate of hard work, and his methods shine as the company celebrates 53 years. He enjoyed antique cars, traveling, fast motorcycles, and making wildly inappropriate and sarcastic comments. He was always ready for a good laugh, good company, and he certainly left an impression on all he met. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents Norman and Vera, brother Al, and stepson Tom. He is survived by his wife Jan; sisters Gerry and Elaine; daughters Sharron (Greg) and Robin (Larry); stepson Jerry (Kara); son Rick (Jessica); 14 grand- children; and 18 great-grandchildren. Robert Michael “Mike” Turner (1949~2018) The New Jersey Ground Water Association sadly informed of the sudden passing of Robert Michael “Mike” Turner on April 23, 2018. Mike was born in Atlantic City in 1949, then attended Glassboro State University after graduating high school. Following his start as a shop teacher, Mike opened Mill Pond Mechanical Sales in Port Republic, drilling and installing geothermal and water wells. He eventually shifted his business focus from drilling, to become a provider of geothermal heat pumps and supplies for contractors. He served as a city councilmember, was on the board of the Greater Atlantic Cancer Society, and was founder of the New Jersey Heat Pump Council. He enjoyed traveling the world, nature, and spending time with his family. Mike is survived by his wife of 47 years, Sandra; sons Michael (Susi) and Steven; daughter Christina (Eric); five grandchil- dren; and other extended family. Dewey Clyde “Duke” Wright, Jr. (1955~2018) Dewey Clyde “Duke” Wright, Jr., age 62, of Boone, North Carolina, passed away March 12, 2018. He was a man of his word and valued honesty above all. Nothing gave himmore pleasure than to spend his days work- ing and getting things done. He managed Dewey Wright Well & Pump Company, and had worked there from youth. He valued his employees and tried to treat everyone well. They were more than employees to him; they were his friends who fondly nicknamed him "Duke". He was a member of the North Carolina Ground Water Association and Tennessee Water Well Association. In his school years, Dewey was known as a star athlete. He received many awards and held several basket- ball records for years. Dewey is survived by his wife Darlene; daughter Ally; son Ryon; mother Margie; sisters Sherry and Robyn (Steven); broth- er-in-law Kenny; and several nieces and nephews. The management and staff of WWDR extend their sympathies to these indus- try gentlemen’s family and friends. Lest we forget... 14 JUNE 2018 WorldWide Drilling Resource ®
