It’s Free I couldn’t find a quote about free stuff, so I decided to give you one of my own this month: “I looked up ‘free’ in the dictionary, and all of the definitions were about freedom. The only one about stuff was (see below). I think it’s time for a newer version of this book because free is used billions of times on the Internet, and I’ll bet the stuff that is actually free is less than .0001%.” I can’t tell you how many times I have searched for something online and kept getting lists of sites with the word FREE in it. So I decided to do a quick search of the word and guess what - there are actually sites with “free” in the domain name - oh well, where was I . . . Define “free” - without cost or payment. That’s it? This is the best the dictionary can do? Well, when I go to various sites - dating sites, people search sites, and numerous business sites with the word “free” in the search definition, what I learned from 99.9% of them was the only thing which was free, was actually just going to their site - everything else had a price. The ultimate “bait and switch.” Here a just three examples. I won’t bore you with hundreds as I’m sure you too have learned free doesn’t actually mean free. Keep in mind, when I am talking about many sites, I’m not referring to sites that sell space to their advertis- ers or members - but sites that promise you won’t pay - oh sorry . . . Normal sites like typical business sites - air- lines, retail, restaurants, etc. assume you know what you buy isn’t free. What is this world coming to? I think it’s time I move to Tahiti.
