The “Idiots” Corner “Change Up” by “Billy Bob Smith” I know for months I have focused on the idiots who surround us every day, but since this crazy year is almost over, I thought I would take a new tact this month and focus on what’s good, even great about the simple fact I live and work in the BEST country in the entire world (and having worked in over 30 of some of the best countries around the world, I am speaking from experience). Don’t get too attached to it - ‘cause this is a one-time deal. Next month it’s back to Idiots Corner . . . So, this holiday season I would like to focus on three basic fundamentals: what we all have to be thankful for, why we should be thankful, and who we should reach out to this year and send our thanks, best wishes, prayers, or just kind thoughts and why. First, a quick quote as you know I don’t like to take credit for wise words or ideas: “Kindness is the language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see.” ~Mark Twain What we have to be thankful for. This could be a really long list, but I’ll keep it simple and hopefully relevant to each of you. First, you are alive and able to read this, so there’s a lot there to consider. Also, the reason you are probably reading this is you have a job or organization that offers you support, income, and the ability to be of value to others. How about that you have a roof over your head, maybe a car to drive, had a meal or two so far today, and have at least a certain degree of dignity as you walk the earth. Want more? How about the freedom to think, believe, and even behave as long as you don’t hurt others in some critical way. And, you have memories, dreams, talent, and so much more. Okay, just to be clear, not everyone has some or any of these - so just say thank-you this holiday season for what you have, who you are, and what you do. Why we should be thankful. I’m going to let you answer this one. Just take a few minutes from your busy day looking at your iPhone and think why should you be thankful. And finally - who we should reach out to with our thanks and appreciation, and why. I’ll wager there is at least one person in your life who deserves a simple thankyou from you who hasn’t received it yet, in a long time, or even ever - long past friend, a loyal customer, how about a close relative or family member? You might be amazed how many people take the simple idea of saying thank-you for something simple or major for granted. I know I have, and I know a lot of people in my life who have. I won’t whine or blame because I don’t want to stray from this message, I’m just asking you to, this month go out of your way to say thank-you to anyone, everyone, or even a total stranger - for something, anything, or everything. Take a Year-End Thank-You Pledge . . . Try it - it works. That’s it, folks. So next month, it’s back to the idiots we have to serve, work with, live with, or just interact with from time to time. Stay safe, healthy, and happy this holiday season and remember to say thankyou more often this month than you ever have before.
